Enneagram for Business & Leadership

04 Jan Enneagram for Business & Leadership

Do you want to unleash the power of your leadership? Is your team struggling to work together? It’s not easy leading in times like these. That’s why we have come alongside leaders for over a decade to help them lead in times like these.

The Enneagram is a tool we have used with leaders and organizations to help them unlock their potential. It is a framework that offers in-depth insight to individuals and teams. The Integrative Enneagram creates self-awareness and uncovers the patterns of behavior that subconsciously drive and motivate us to act in certain ways.  Therefore when we make these patterns and motivations conscious, we are able to go beyond them and develop richer, more supportive ways of showing up in the world.  Working with the Enneagram empowers individuals to take responsibility for their own behaviors and growth from a greater understanding of WHY they what they do. The Enneagram is about type IN you rather than type OF you. There are nine different types, or styles, in the Enneagram and we have access to all of them, but one of them will be our driving motivation.

Leading You:

The most challenging person you will ever lead is yourself. Understanding what drives and motivates you unlocks the door to practice self-leadership. If you can’t lead yourself it becomes difficult for you to lead and influence others.

Leading Others:

When you take time to understand your motivation and the motivation of those you lead, it enables you to influence your team in a higher impact way.  Leaders who help their teams grow and improve, not only experience success and growth for themselves, they also see increased growth, morale and success for their team. They accomplish more in less time because of the way that they work together.

Taking a Closer look at the Enneagram

This is a motivation and not a behavior model, meaning we may all do the same behavior, but we do it for different reasons. Each type, or number, in the model represents how a person with that motivation thinks, feels and acts in relation to the world. This reveals our core motivations, defense mechanisms and fears.  The Enneagram gets at the why underneath our behavior and when you understand that, you create awareness that leads to growth for you and the people you lead.

As a brief introduction, these are the nine Enneagram types in numerical order:

  1. Strict Perfectionist – values principle and integrity and is driven by the motivational need to be good and right.
  2. Considerate Helper – has a motivational need to be liked and appreciated.
  3. Competitive Achiever – is likely to value achievement and want to be the best.
  4. Intense Creative – has the motivational need to express their uniqueness and be authentic.
  5. Quiet Specialist – is motivated by the need to know and understand.
  6. Loyal Sceptic – values security and belonging, as this style stems from the motivational need to be safe and prepared.
  7. Enthusiastic Visionary – has a motivational need to experience life to the fullest and avoid pain.
  8. Active Controller – has a motivational need to be strong and avoid showing vulnerability.
  9. Adaptive Peacemaker – motivated by a need to be settled and in harmony with the world.

To get the best out of Enneagram, I recommend you work with a certified coach who understands the model. A trained Enneagram coach can help you unlock your potential for growth by helping you get the most out of the assessment and results.  Thus helping you get the outcomes that matter most in your life and work.
